As if the subtle differences between the low to mid-end Honor 5X, 5C and 5A weren’t confusing enough for Huawei’s growing fan base both domestically and internationally, the premium Honor V8 will soon get a diminutive, slightly downgraded derivation to further dilute the company’s surprisingly successful sub-brand.

The Honor 8 (no V prefix this time around) is essentially confirmed to land on Chinese shores in a few weeks tops, with certification agency Tenaa gracious enough to reveal all of the 5.2-incher’s secrets early.

Despite a robust metal frame sandwiched between snazzy glass panels, the upcoming Kirin 950-powered device looks less charming than its jumbo-sized cousin. The Huawei Honor 8 also settles for humdrum (by flagship standards) 1080p screen resolution, and 2,900 mAh battery capacity.

On its back, it touts a circular fingerprint reader and advanced dual 12MP camera, though the latter strikes us as a tad more unpleasant to the eye than the Honor V8’s main snapper. On the bright side, you’re guaranteed Android 6.0 Marshmallow out the box once the 5.2-incher launches, a solid 8MP front-facing cam, up to 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, a slender 7.45mm profile, and rumor has it, a palatable $300 or so (CNY 2,000) starting price.
